I have a BA in anthropology, an MFA in nonfiction writing, and a PhD in rhetoric and composition. Although these seem dissimilar, they share an interest in civic engagement and in communication across boundaries.
Here is my educational chronology:
1986-1991. BA in Anthropology from Reed College. Spent a semester abroad in Bodh Gaya, India, with Antioch University in 1988.
1991-2001. Worked in the private sector, mainly as a technical writer.
2001-2004. MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the English Department at Northern Michigan University.
2004-2009. PhD in Rhetoric and Composition from the English Department at the University of Nevada, Reno and began as an Assistant Professor at UC Davis.
2009-2015. Assistant Professor at UC Davis.
2015-2020. Associate Professor at UC Davis.
Starting August 2020. Associate Professor and Director of the Writing Intensive Curriculum at Oregon State University.
